Srinagar, Jan 29 (KNO): Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader and MLA from Pulwama, Waheed Ur Rehman Para, has raised serious concerns over the proposed implementation of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), emphasizing that India's diversity must be respected. Para described the move as premature, warning that a hasty rollout of the UCC could undermine the country’s multicultural fabric. Speaking to reporters in Sonamarg, as per news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) Para highlighted that various communities in India follow distinct laws, traditions, and customs. He argued that implementing the UCC without extensive consultation would disregard the unique needs and concerns of different groups. "The implementation of the UCC at this stage is not appropriate. India is a diverse country where every community follows its own customs and laws. Any move in this regard must ensure that the voices of all concerned communities, especially Muslims, are heard and considered," he said. Para also expressed specific concerns regarding the Muslim community, particularly in relation to Waqf and Muslim personal laws. He stressed that any legal or policy changes affecting these areas must involve active participation from Muslim representatives. He further mentioned that a delegation, led by prominent religious leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, had recently visited New Delhi to discuss the issue, urging a comprehensive review of the UCC proposal before any final decision is made—(KNO)
